More than ever before, the interest in ethanol fermentation is growing. Ethanol is considered to be the cleanest liquid fuel alternative to fossil fuels. Amazing advances have been made towards the technology of homemade, or home brewed ethanol.

The process of fermentation is one of the oldest chemical processes around. It is used to make many different products, including beverages, drugs, chemicals and foods. Fermentation of ethanol normally come from petroleum feedstock at lower costs. The energy crisis of the seventies generated a great interest in the fermentation of ethanol. What is important in the fermentation of ethanol is the availability and the cost of carbohydrate relative to the availability and the cost of ethylene. Prices of grain and sugar, have risen since the seventies.

Fermentation of ethanol comes from any material that contains sugar. Sugars

Fermentation of ethanol comes from any material that contains sugar. Sugars mostly from cane, sugar beets, molasses and fruits may be converted to ethanol directly.

Corporations have recently unveiled state of the art home ethanol distilleries. A device for making home made ethanol, or home brew as called. The home distillery is extremely expensive, running on the average of approximately $10,00.00 but it does offer some relief from the rising gasoline prices. The distillery can produce approximately 35 gallons of ethanol using a combination of sugar, yeast and water, and can be put directly into your vehicle.

Getting the hang of home brewing ethanol is much easier than you would think. This home brew device is loaded with the feedstock, which is sugar and yeast, then mixed with water, the ingredients turn into useable ethanol in about a weeks time. The distiller runs on standard household 110 to 220 volt AC power and uses about 150 watts
If making home made ethanol, one should note that it takes about 14 pounds of feedstock to produce one gallon of ethanol.

Most cars have no problem running on home made or home brew ethanol as long as they are equipped with a simple converter kit. Although some of the newer cars, also called Flex Cars, don’t need the converter kit, it’s mostly the traditional cars that need the converter kit, which runs on the average of $700.00.

When looking into a home brew distillery for home made ethanol producing, you will find that a federal tax credit worth $1000.00 is available depending on what type of distiller you buy. This is offered to help offset the expense of the home distiller itself.

Although this is an alternative to using high priced gasoline, one has to keep in mind the rising cost of food, and electricity, in this case, the need for hundreds of pounds of sugar. This plus the cost of the home brew distiller may wart off potential buyers, and direct them to a hybrid car for savings. Looking long term, families may be interested in going in together for a home brew kit. A group of people pitching in, and long term usage, could very well add up go great savings.
