Next you will need to study How to Build a Ethanol Still, and how to Make Ethanol. First and foremost, ethanol is NOT for drinking. It will not only make you blind but there are other health reasons too. It is not legal to drink in any way. It s fast made and has oil in it. Research the internet, borrow books from the library, and check out a magazine called “Mother Earth News” (which is also online). After doing the research you can see how many plans just won’t work for you. Also research how to make ethanol fuel for your car or biofuel for your truck. After you have decided what the best plan for you is, it is time for a Federal permit. It doesn’t cost anything for a ethanol permit. And if you do build a ethanol still, you will get a tax credit of $1,000. and 65 cents to $1. tax credit for every gallon of 195 proof you make.

It takes 30 to 45 days for your permit. You have to have a locked building, not attached to your home and at least, 50 feet away (for a safety margin) from the house in case of a fire.

I like to have 100 amp electricity available for lights and the pumps. It is easier to ground everything to the grounding rod.

Next you will need a recipe for your mash, also called beer, (10 percent alcohol at best as anything higher will kill the yeast).

I have found a number of mash recipes and like the no-cook recipes best. The use of ethanol enzymes and super yeast is best for the ethanol fermentation. You will need to build a tank that is easy to make the ethanol fermentation with gas and air locks.

After 2- to 3 days the mash will be ready. The ethanol mash will stop bubbling and the foam will sink to the bottom. Now you are ready to cook the mash in the ethanol still.

Take your boiler up to 173 degrees and keep the steam in the ethanol still at 173 degrees. By the time it gets to the top of the ethanol still, it will start cooling and it will be195 proof. Take your hydrometer and check it. You will need to denature it and make it undrinkable at this point. You can NOT keep straight 195 proof laying around. Someone may drink it and you may/or will be held liable.

It must be put in a locking gas tank away from the ethanol still in case of fire.

You can mix 15 % ethanol to 85 % gas for most cars and they will run just fine. If you have a fuel-injected car, it will run 100 % 195 proof all the time (with no gas). I run a truck with E15 gas in one tank and 195 proof in the other.
